Asian-Style Ground Beef Lettuce Wraps

Ingredients
  

1 lb ground beef

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 cup water chestnuts, minced

2 green onions, chopped

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

Salt and pepper to taste

1 head of butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated

Optional toppings: shredded carrots, chopped peanuts, cilantro

Instructions
 

Heat Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

    Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess grease if necessary.

      Sauté Aromatics: Add minced garlic, chopped onion, and ginger to the pan. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and onions are translucent.

        Add Vegetables: Stir in minced water chestnuts and half of the chopped green onions. Cook for another 2 minutes until everything is well mixed and heated through.

          Season the Mixture: Pour in soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir until everything is evenly coated. Allow it to simmer for about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

            Prepare Lettuce Wraps: While the mixture simmers, rinse and pat dry the lettuce leaves. Arrange them on a serving platter.

              Serve: Spoon the beef mixture into the center of each lettuce leaf. Top with optional shredded carrots, chopped peanuts, and remaining green onions.
