Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, applesauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vegetable oil. Mix well until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!

Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts, if using, ensuring they're evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before lifting it out using the parchment paper. Allow it to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into bars.

Serve and enjoy the delightful combination of chocolate and banana!
