Ingredients

For the Beef Filling:

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried)

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

2 green onions, chopped

1 bell pepper, finely chopped

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Pastry:

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon turmeric powder (for color)

½ cup unsalted butter, grated or cut into small pieces

1 large egg

3-4 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

Prepare the Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, add vegetable oil and sauté onion and garlic until softened. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned. Stir in thyme, allspice, paprika, cayenne pepper, green onions, and bell pepper. Mix well.

Season the Beef: Add Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Lower the heat and simmer for about 5-7 minutes until everything is combined well. Remove from heat and allow it to cool while you prepare the pastry.

Make the Pastry Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and turmeric. Incorporate the grated butter using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 3 tablespoons of cold water. Add this mixture into the flour mixture until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add another tablespoon of cold water. Knead gently until smooth.

Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Roll Out the Dough: Once chilled, divide the dough into two portions. Roll out each portion on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Using a round cutter (or a bowl), cut out circles (about 6 inches in diameter).

Fill the Patties: Place about 2 tablespoons of beef filling in the center of each circle. Be careful not to overfill.

Seal the Patties: Fold the pastry over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, then use a fork to crimp the edges securely.

Bake: Place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You can brush the tops with a bit of beaten egg for a shiny finish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Allow the beef patties to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm as a delicious snack or appetizer!
