1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (40g)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65g)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (115g), softened

1/2 cup brown sugar (100g), packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (190g)

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (180g), semi-sweet

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar until smooth.

        - Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

          - In a separate bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

            - Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.

              Make the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until creamy.

                  - Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until fully incorporated.

                    - In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

                      - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to gently spread it out, but don’t worry if some brownie batter shows through.

                        Bake the Browkies:

                          - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.

                            - Avoid over-baking to maintain that fudgy texture.

                              Cool and Serve:

                                - Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift the browkies out of the pan.

                                  - Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares.

Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 45 mins | Servings: 12-16 squares
